We work with Indigenous Miskito communities in La Mosquitia, Honduras, to stop the yearly fires that keep the land bare. When the fires stop, the Caribbean pine forest regenerates largely on its own, and we pay local people to do the work. Where the seed trees are already gone, we add planting.
No. Cut your own emissions first. Credits are for the emissions you can't yet remove. They fund climate work beyond your own operations, they don't replace the work of reducing them.
A lot of it is, and we take that seriously. We don't plant our way to a number. The seedlings are already in the ground here; they just burn every year. We stop the fires so the forest survives, and we measure what comes back every season. Where fires return, the trees die; where we work, they live. That link is easy to check.
We monitor every season, hold buffer credits for reversal risk, and respond when indicators slip. No project is risk-free, and we say so. The long-term plan is an economy that makes the standing forest worth more to the community than clearing it.
No. Without fire control, the young pines burn season after season, which is exactly what turned forest into bare savanna here. The regeneration happens because we stop the fires, not on its own.
Plan Vivo, the standard built for community-led restoration. We're certified under V4 and migrating to V5, working toward ICVCM Core Carbon Principles approval. The work was validated by AENOR, and credits are registered on the Markit Environmental Registry (S&P Global).
At least 60% of credit revenue goes directly to the participating communities, for brigade wages, firebreaks, nurseries, monitoring and community programs. The rest runs the Honduran and international operation.
The communities own the land and its carbon rights. Decisions run through MASTA, the elected Territorial Councils and community meetings, with consent treated as an ongoing process. There are no partner organisations between us and the communities. Paskaia runs its own field team, with an office in Puerto Lempira.
